I carried out weeks of research before purchasing my ZWO Seestar S50 smart telescope. I have no experience of using a telescope or knowledge of the night sky, but I've always wanted to see some objects in the sky others have taken pictures of and published. I don't have the time, money, or knowledge to buy a telescope, and camera, as well as finding things I want to take a picture of.I came across the ZWO Seestar S50 smart telescope, I had my doubts, how could something for around the £500 mark be as good as advertised. The S50 didn't disappoint, after making sure it was charged up, I fitted the tripod ready for later. At dusk, I placed the telescope on a level surface in eager anticipation for the night sky. We only have a small city garden along with nearby streetlights, hence I had low expectations.The setup was easy, simply power on and connect your phone to the built-in Wi-Fi on the S50. Using the app, I selected one of the recommended objects that had good visibility that night, in my case the M42. Being honest, I didn't have high hopes… I was wrong, after just a couple of mins I couldn't believe it.A few nights later I tried looking at the M1, again I wasn't disappointed.The S50 opened a whole new world and a new hobby, and I have already learned so much about imaging which I had no previous experience of. I have only used the built-in app that stacks the images where you can easily save to your phone. Already I've started looking at downloading the images to combine using free software, and there are plenty of online videos giving advice and guidance.Now for the negatives!Your partner will be sick of you telling them about your new telescope, and you will be told off if you keep saying "WOW" out loud.
