Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 16, 2026

Finer Gear, operated by Seattle Boatnuts LLC (“we,” “us”), runs topic-focused community hubs with curated content. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices. We aim to collect as little as possible.

Information we collect

  • Email address and password — when you create an account. You sign in with your email and a password; we also offer a “magic link” by email for sign-in and account recovery. Your password is stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text. Your email is also how we send account-related messages.
  • An anonymous visitor identifier — a random ID stored in a cookie so that likes, reactions, and outbound link clicks work and aren’t double-counted. It isn’t tied to your identity unless you sign in.
  • Usage analytics — aggregate, privacy-friendly pageview metrics (which pages are visited, roughly from where). We use a cookieless analytics provider; this data is not used to identify you.
  • Content you create — comments, likes, and similar interactions you choose to make.

We do not collect payment information, and we don’t sell your personal information.

How we use it

  • To authenticate you and operate your account.
  • To remember your reactions and personalize what you see.
  • To understand which content resonates so we can curate better.
  • To detect abuse and keep the service running.

Affiliate links

Some outbound “buy” links are (or will be) affiliate links — meaning we may earn a commission if you purchase through them, at no extra cost to you. As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Clicking these links never changes which content we surface or how it’s ranked.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies: one to keep you signed in, and the anonymous visitor identifier described above. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Service providers

We rely on trusted providers to run the service, who process data on our behalf: hosting and analytics (Vercel), database (Neon), email delivery (Resend), and content classification (Anthropic). Outbound purchase links may take you to third-party retailers (e.g. Amazon), whose own privacy policies then apply.

Data retention

We keep account data while your account is active. Curated content items expire and are removed automatically over time. You can ask us to delete your account and associated personal data at any time.

Your choices

  • You can request access to, or deletion of, your data.
  • You can clear your browser cookies to reset the anonymous ID.
  • You can stop using the service at any time.

Children

Finer Gear is not directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.

Changes

We may update this policy; we’ll revise the “last updated” date above when we do.
