Given the last few posts on the Even Realities G2 and MemoMind One glasses, I spend (maybe too much of) the start of this video diving into how we’ve converged on a general industrial design (ID) and functionality in these smart glasses – so much so that we’re now getting design infringement lawsuits being filed in US courts. When lawyers get involved, you know we’ve got a real market now!

I’ll also take this opportunity in your first 10s of reading to plug the smart-glass comparison tool – this will compare all the quantitative ratings across multiple metrics for all of the glasses tested on this channel, and the RayNeo iOs are now tied for 1st place (at least if you don’t need audio…) with 4.22/5 stars. Nice!

One area I have an issue with RayNeo is the marketed weight – these measure at 37.6g, a very respectable & comfortable weight, but almost 15% above their advertised 33g… all thanks to the rubber protection around the rear of the temples. At this point I’m just waiting for a brand to advertise their glasses weighing 1g if you only include the display… Nevertheless, they weigh exactly the same as the G2s when including the frankly mandatory rubber covers, which makes them impressively light.

The clamping force is higher than we saw in the MemoMind One’s, topping out at 1.5N applied at 18cm head width. Due to a relatively large contact area compared to the G2s, these have a very smooth applied pressure curve maxing out at 8kPa, a good bit higher than the MemoMind’s which are much lower pressure due to a 50% smaller contact area. While I rate the comfort quite high, I will note that at the start of my wear I did think the aggressive curvature of the rear temples was slightly uncomfortable… I’m not sure if I just got over it after a few days, but now I do think this is one of the more comfortable pairs out there.

There is no onboard audio, but one new metric I want to cover is audio quality for the onboard microphones – this is really more of a testament to the digital signal processing of each company as the actual MEMS microphone used in all of these devices is generally the same package. In this case, take the amplitude vs. frequency with a grain of salt (there are challenges getting raw input capture of the ‘pink noise’ source which is meant to give us a nearly equal power across the entire bandwidth of the device), but do look at the spectral cutoff – these glasses tend to have a strict cutoff above 8kHz.
