Fenix Simulations Releases A320 Family V3 Update for MSFS 2020/2024

Threshold

Quick summary· AI-generated

Fenix's V3 update (3.0.0.7426) represents one of the largest revisions to the A320 since release, with sweeping changes across the flight management system, flight dynamics, autopilot, engine control logic, and cabin systems. Key improvements include a rewritten VNAV with better descent calculations, reworked turn/holding-pattern logic, a hybrid ground-handling model, rebuilt Flight Warning Computer and ECAM, new Cabin Intercommunication Data System with Virtual Purser automation, redesigned Electronic Flight Bag with QRH, and substantially reworked audio with active noise cancellation. The update applies to all A320 family variants (A319, A320, A321) and is available via the Fenix Installer for both MSFS 2020 and 2024.

Excerpt from Threshold

Following last week’s announcement, Fenix Simulations has released Version 3 of its Airbus A320 family for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and 2024, one of the largest updates to the product since the original release.

Known as version 3.0.0.7426, the update can be downloaded from the Fenix Installer, which also contains the full changelog. The update is for both MSFS 2020 and 2024 and applies to all of Fenix’s current aircraft, including the A319, A320, and A321.

The update was initially showcased a few days ago via a YouTube video that Fenix published. V3 encompasses about 4,000 individual changes.

What’s new

According to Fenix, the biggest improvements in V3 include a complete overhaul of the Flight Management System (FMS), rewritten VNAV, more accurate descent calculations, improved altitude and speed restriction behaviour, and LNAV improvements, with reworked turn calculations and holding patterns. The flight dynamics have been extensively reworked, including the fly-by-wire system, flight directors, and autopilot.

A new “hybrid” ground-handling model has been implemented, using partially externalised ground physics at lower speeds, to better replicate how the A320 taxis in real life. Before, the ground handling model was, as we understand it, more internalised within MSFS.

Fenix has also rebuilt the Flight Warning Computer (FWC) and the Electronic Centralised Aircraft Monitoring (ECAM) system, as well as rewritten the engine control logic for both the CFM56 and IAE V2500 engines.

As for the passenger cabin, a new Cabin Intercommunication Data System (CIDS) simulation has been added, including a functional Flight Attendant Panel and a “Virtual Purser” function that automatically performs cabin crew duties during a flight and interacts with CIDS.

The EFB has been redesigned and now includes a QRH; the cockpit animations have been improved and now respond to ground physics, which means some cockpit panels, seats, and other components vibrate and move in response to external forces.

The sound set has been substantially reworked and now includes active noise cancellation.

The cabin windows have also been reworked, and they should now better reflect the real-life aircraft’s material properties.
