Classic Aircraft Simulations Previews de Havilland Comet 4 for MSFS 2024
Quick summary· AI-generated
The developer plans an extensive study-level simulation of the de Havilland Comet 4 for MSFS 2024 with historically accurate features including functional LORAN navigation with APN-9 unit and custom maps, astronavigation using a periscopic sextant, detailed engine behavior with failures, fully modeled Smiths Flight System and SEP-2D autopilot, ASRAD E.160 weather radar, and custom-coded electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems with realistic failure modes. The flight model will use CFD and original aircraft documentation. No release date has been announced.

Classic Aircraft Simulations has shared a development update on its de Havilland Comet 4 project for MSFS 2024. An extensive systems simulation is planned.
The project has been in the works for some time, with the first previews dating back to 2025. In this update, the developer stated that work is continuing on systems, handling characteristics, and various historical-accuracy features. The developer aims for a “study-level simulation”, in its own words.
The update was given on Discord.
The developer plans to simulate LORAN navigation, including a functional APN-9 unit, and custom navigation maps. Astronavigation will also be possible, allowing you to use a periscopic sextant to navigate by the night sky, just as pilots could do in the 1950s.
Custom electrical, hydraulic, and fuel systems are being developed, along with functional circuit breakers and a failure system. The developer anticipated detailed engine behaviour and is modelling the Smiths Flight System and SEP-2D autopilot, and an ASRAD E.160 weather radar. The flight model uses CFD and the original aircraft documentation.
The developer stated the following features, among others:
LORAN navigation, complete with an APN-9 unit and custom LORAN navigation maps – the first time LORAN has been authentically modelled in any sim.
Astronavigation: pick up the periscopic sextant, look to the stars, and navigate like it’s 1958.
Detailed engine behaviour, including failures, fires, damage caused by engine abuse.
Crew checklist with optional cockpit automation.
An authentic flight model, developed using CFD and data from the original manuals.
A fully featured custom coded electrical system, with realistic DC split busbar and AC systems. Every aircraft circuit is modelled, and every cockpit circuit breaker and fuse works.
Custom coded hydraulic & fuel systems, including authentic failure modes.
The Smiths Flight System and SEP-2D autopilot, fully modelled.
ASRAD E.160 Weather Radar modelled as accurately as possible.
Physics based animation.
“And much more! I’m really pushing for a study level model.”
Classic Aircraft Simulations is the creator of the Piper J-3 Cub for MSFS 2020 and 2024, as well as a more unconventional “Wyvern Mk.1”, essentially a controllable dragon, released as an April Fools’ project.
As for the comet, no release date has been announced. See the developer’s website or join the Discord here.
