No Money Mondays: Willow Run Airport LITE by JetSet Designs
Quick summary· AI-generated
Willow Run Airport LITE is a freeware X-Plane 12 scenery add-on built on default airport foundation using JetSet Designs' LITE approach—hand-placed buildings, vegetation, and static aircraft enhanced with existing Laminar assets rather than from-scratch custom work. The airport features realistic traffic including 747s, DC-9s, MD-80s, and regional jets, making it appealing for cargo flight enthusiasts. While not matching JetSet's full payware products in visual fidelity, the scenery still delivers solid quality and includes modified OpenStreetMap data for Ortho4XP compatibility. Installation requires the MisterX Library, Zero Dollar Payware Library 1.2+, and JetSet Designs Library.

Welcome back to No Money Mondays, our weekly column where we take a look at everything freeware!
This week, we’re headed to Michigan, in the United States, to take a look at Willow Run Airport (IATA/FAA: YIP, ICAO: KYIP) by JetSet Designs, for X-Plane 12.
Willow Run is, perhaps, particularly interesting for those who like to fly cargo flights.
The airport is a hub for 747 operator Kalitta Air, Kalitta Charters, and USA Jet, among others, and has seen its fair share of unusual aircraft over the years.
Traffic today is a good mix of DC-9s, 727s, MD-80s, 747s, even Metroliners, and CRJs.
It’s worth noting that JetSet Designs Willow Run is not a custom, from-the-ground-up airport; instead, it is built on top of default scenery, enhanced to a higher-quality standard, using existing X-Plane assets.
It forms part of what JetSet Designs calls their “LITE” scenery line.
Buildings have therefore been recreated, primarily, using Laminar Research’s included objects, placed to resemble their real-world counterparts as closely as possible.
The scenery also uses default Laminar ground textures.
This will thus not be of the same standard as one of JetSet Designs’ full scenery products, although the airport still looked quite good when I tried it.
The scenery nonetheless includes hand-placed airport buildings, vegetation, static aircraft, and additional work around the surrounding area.
Modified OpenStreetMap data is also included for those using Ortho4XP and a 1/3 ARC mesh. JetSet Designs recommends using Bing imagery.
The scenery requires the MisterX Library, Zero Dollar Payware Library 1.2 or newer, and the JetSet Designs Library.
These need to be installed for the scenery to work correctly.
