Welcome to another edition of No Money Mondays! This week, we will be heading out to Austria, specifically the northern part of Austria, where we will be checking littlekrg’s and Troglodytus’ rendition of Linz Airport for MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024, a small international airport serving Linz, the third-largest city in Austria.
Its history dates back to 1938, when the airport was moved from a location near the city to Hörsching, a municipality neighbouring Linz. During WWII, the airport was used to station Luftwaffe bomber and fighter squadrons between 1943 and 1945.
In 1956, Linz finally received scheduled passenger service, and 10 years later, got daily flights to Frankfurt, making it the first hub Linz connected to. In the following years, the airport also received a passenger terminal, and later got equipped with the then-highest ILS category, IIIb.
Throughout the years, Linz Airport had the honour to serve quite a couple of iconic aircraft. Concorde visited the airport a few times between 1979 and 1989, the Antonov An-124 was a regular visitor in the 90s, along with the An-225 as well, which landed at the Blue Danube Airport twice, in 2003 and 2021. In 2010, an A380 also made a stop in Linz, between Vienna and Munich.
Littlekrg and Troglodytus’ rendition of Linz Airport is available for download on flightsim.to, and features custom-modelled terminals, towers, hangars and airport facilities, accurate apron, ground and runway markings, realistic custom night lighting, custom static aircraft, and a detailed area surrounding the airport. The scenery is also compatible with World Update 18, and while it was developed for MSFS 2020, it is compatible with MSFS 2024 as well.
