Threshold

Quick summary· AI-generated

iniBuilds has officially announced development of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport for MSFS 2024, a long-requested European hub featuring multiple terminal areas, extensive taxiway systems, and complex infrastructure. The developer has completed substantial research on the airport's layout, terminal architecture, and surrounding areas, with particular focus on the architectural differences between Terminal 1, Terminal 2 variants, and connecting facilities. iniBuilds is actively seeking input from flight crew, ground handlers, and airport operations staff to ensure accuracy in reproduction.

As part of today’s development updates, including an Aircraft development update, iniBuilds has announced the development of Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (IATA: CDG, ICAO: LFPG) for Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024.

CDG, perhaps the “final boss” of European airports, at least as far as MSFS is concerned, has long been a requested scenery for the sim, having been taken on (also abandoned) by several flight sim developers.

The announcement follows a busy period for the iniBuilds scenery team, who have recently released Chicago O’Hare and Malta Airport, and continue to work on a V2 rework of Dubai International Airport.

Charles de Gaulle has, meanwhile, been progressing behind the scenes, with the developer now finally confirming the project.

As France’s primary international gateway, Charles de Gaulle is home to a wide variety of airlines, routes, and operations, encompassing short-haul European services, intercontinental flights, and extensive cargo traffic.

The airport’s sheer size also makes for a complicated task to reproduce digitally, with several distinct terminal areas, satellite buildings, cargo facilities, hotels, road networks, rail infrastructure, and an extensive taxiway system.

iniBuilds says a substantial amount of research has “already been completed”, and this work covers the airport layout, terminal architecture, airside infrastructure, and wider surroundings.

iniBuilds says they have collected extensive reference material, used to distinguish the individual terminal areas.

Particular attention is currently being given to the architectural differences found throughout Charles de Gaulle, as the airport has developed considerably since its opening in 1974.

This has resulted in a varied “spaghetti-bowl” of distinctive terminal designs and different areas, notably the circular Terminal 1, the various Terminal 2 buildings and satellite concourses, and the infrastructure connecting them.

iniBuilds is also seeking assistance from people with first-hand knowledge of the airfield, e.g., flight crew, ground handlers, airport operations staff, engineers, former employees, and others who regularly operate at Charles de Gaulle.
